17Rouse yourself, rouse yourself, arise, Jerusalem, who drank from the hand of the LORD the cup of his wrath, the dregs of the cup of reeling; you drank, you drained it.18There is no guide for her among all the sons she bore, and there is no one holding her hand among all the sons she raised.19Two things, behold, have come to you—who will pity you? Devastation and breakage and famine and the sword—who will comfort you?20Your sons have fainted; they lie down at the head of every street like a snare full of the wrath of the LORD, the rebuke of your God.21Therefore hear this now, you poor and oppressed one, you drunken one but not from wine.22Thus says your Lord the LORD and your God, who pleads the cause of his people: Behold, I have taken from your hand the cup of reeling, the cup of my wrath; you shall drink it no more.23And I will put them in the hand of your oppressors, who said to your nephesh, "Bow down and we will pass over," and you will put your back like the ground, like the street for those passing over.

Chapter 52
1Awake, awake, put on your might, Zion; put on the garments of your glory, Jerusalem, city of the holy portion, for no more will he come into you, the uncircumcised and the impure.2Shake yourself from the dust; arise, O captive Jerusalem; loose yourself from the bonds of your neck, O captive daughter Zion.3For thus says the LORD: You were sold for nothing, and you will not be redeemed with silver.4For thus says the Lord GOD: My people went down to Egypt at first to sojourn there, but Assyria—he oppressed them for nothing.5And now, what do I have here? says the LORD. For he has taken my people for nothing; his rulers howl, says the LORD. And all day long continually my name is despised.6Therefore my people will know my name; therefore on that day they will know that I am he who speaks; here I am.7How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the one bringing good news, proclaiming peace, bringing good news, proclaiming salvation, saying to Zion, "Your God reigns."8The voice of your watchmen—they have lifted up their voice; together they shout for joy, for eye to eye they see in the return of the LORD to Zion.9Burst forth, sing joyfully together, ruins of Jerusalem, for the LORD has comforted his people, has redeemed Jerusalem.10The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth saw the salvation of our God.11Depart, depart; go out from there. Unclean, do not touch. Go out from her midst. Purify yourselves, you bearers of the vessels of the LORD.12For you will not go out in haste, nor will you go in flight, for the LORD goes before you, and the God of Israel gathers you.
